WEEK 22

What I learned on my summer vacation....

If there's one thing I learned this summer, it's this:

Don't go away for a week when the dogs are about to shed their fur!

A few weeks ago, while Sheryl and I were having a marvelous time traipsing around the countryside visiting quaint villages and antiquing our little hearts out, the pups were home waiting patiently and quietly avoiding being brushed.

Now, for the average dog there wouldn't be too major a problem, but for the Heidster......Whoa!

The good news was that Sheryl was going to bring them in to have them groomed anyway. The bad news is Heidi was much too tangled and they recommended shaving her completely.

Fortunately, Maya was able to be groomed.

Because this is the first time we've had Maya groomed since we have been depriving her of peanut butter and taking her furry buttocks on extra vigorous walks, we hardly recognized the little squirt when she was done.

Heidi, on the other hand, has had the mixed pleasure of being brushed and brushed and brushed and brushed ever since.  Even Maya has been helping to get the extra fluff out.

It is truly a labor of love, although Heidi is thinking we're overdoing it a bit.  I guess that's what "tough love" is all about.

Meanwhile, Heather is spending some time with us while all of her significant others are taking a trip to Florida.

It's good to have her back for a little while to slow down the pace. If there's one thing heather likes to do, it's stop and smell the roses, and the fire hydrant, and the telephone pole, and the neighbor's tires, and the other dogs.................

I don't know what got Heather's attention in this picture, but before I snapped it, I could have sworn I heard Maya whisper to Heidi: "Pull my finger."
